What is the ruling on using utensils made of gold or silver for eating and drinking?

The use of gold and silver utensils for consumption is definitively prohibited (*haram*). This is the established doctrine of Abu Hanifa, Malik, and Al-Shafi'i, with no known disagreement among scholars. The prohibition is established based on the Prophet's explicit prohibitions against drinking from or eating off gold and silver vessels, accompanied by severe warnings regarding the Fire of Hell (Jahannam).
