What is the ruling if water used for Wudu flows from the limbs into a gold or silver container?
Chapter on Utensils
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
If the gold or silver utensil is used as a receptacle into which the water drains after removing the state of minor impurity from the limbs, the Wudu is valid. This is because the water that has already separated from the body has completed the removal of the minor impurity, and its subsequent collection in the forbidden vessel does not invalidate the preceding act. The underlying reasoning for the prohibition (vanity and oppressing the poor) is present in this scenario as well, but the definitive act of purification occurs before the water contacts the vessel, establishing its validity.
Supporting text
It is possible to hold that this scenario is equivalent to using the water directly from the vessel, as the perceived signs of vanity and pride are present.
