Primary text

Wiping over a site where a finger's nail has broken off or where a finger has a wound that might turn blue (yazraq) upon contact with water is permissible. Imam Ahmad affirmed this ruling. Furthermore, Ibn Umar narrated that when an ulcer (qurhah) appeared on his thumb, he applied gall (mararah) to it and continued to perform ablution over it.

Al-Qadi stated concerning adhesive plasters (lusooq) on a wound that if removing the plaster causes no harm, the sound skin must be washed, ablution performed by Tayammum for the wounded area, and wiping performed over the wound site. If removing the plaster causes harm, it follows the ruling of a splint (jabeerah), and wiping is performed over it.
