Primary text

The ruling permits the consumption of meat and cheese from lands inhabited by Magians and People of the Book, relying on the precedent set by the actions of the Prophet (PBUH) and his Companions. This permission is based on the view that even if their slaughtering methods were questionable, there is an existing possibility that they did not perform the slaughter themselves, relying instead on Jewish or Christian butchers among them. Since the underlying principle is permissibility (*al-asl al-hill*), this principle is not removed by mere doubt.
