If a vessel that has been subjected to contamination (such as by a dog's saliva) is washed fewer than seven times, and then contaminated again, washing it seven times subsequently suffices. This is because if washing seven times suffices for the greater contamination, it must necessarily suffice for the lesser or equivalent contamination that preceded it.
