Trimming the fingernails is recommended (*mustahabb*) because it is part of the *fitrah* (natural disposition). Neglecting it leads to excessive length, potentially causing the accumulation of filth under them from scratching foul places, resulting in a bad odor on the fingertips. Furthermore, it may impede the necessary flow of purification water underneath.
