Primary text

If a person in a state of major ritual impurity intends to remove the impurity, and then dips their hand to scoop water, one opinion suggests the water becomes used (Musta'mal). However, the soundest view is that if the intention is solely for scooping (Ightiraf), the water does not become used, as the intention to scoop overrides the intention related to ritual washing, similar to the ruling for a person making Wudu (ablution) who scoops water after washing their face.
