Is wiping over leather socks (*khuff*) permissible after performing dry ablution (*tayammum*)?
Chapter on Wiping over the Khuffayn (Leather Socks)
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
Wiping over leather socks is not permissible for one who performs dry ablution and then wears them. This ruling is based on the fact that the socks were donned upon an incomplete purification, which is a purification of necessity (*dharurah*) that is void from its origin. Therefore, it is treated as if the socks were worn while in a state of major impurity (*hadath*), as dry ablution does not lift the state of impurity. This is the established ruling.
