Seventh, the specific throwers must be identified, as vagueness invalidates the contest because the purpose is to ascertain the skill of the specific archer, not archery skill in general. The specified weapon or arrows do not need to be designated, and if designated, they are not binding, as skill depends on the archer, not the equipment. Eighth, the competition must be focused on achieving hits. Declaring the prize for the furthest throw is invalid because the objective of archery, whether for war or hunting, is realized through hitting the target, not merely through distance.

If any element requiring specific designation—such as the archer—is destroyed, the contract is dissolved because the agreement was tied to that specific entity, and its absence prevents the objective of assessing that specific skill from being met. Elements not requiring designation may be substituted if destroyed. Stipulating that one must only use a specific bow, arrow, or rider, contrary to the nature of the contract, results in an invalid condition.
