Primary text

If all competitors and the *muḥallil* reach the finish line simultaneously, each primary competitor secures their own stake, and the *muḥallil* receives nothing because no single primary competitor won. If the two primary competitors beat the *muḥallil*, the *muḥallil* receives nothing. If the *muḥallil* wins alone, he secures both original stakes by consensus. If one of the two primary competitors wins alone, he secures his own stake and takes his competitor's stake, receiving nothing from the *muḥallil*. If one of the two primary competitors and the *muḥallil* win, the winner secures his own stake, and the stake of the loser is split equally between the winner and the *muḥallil*. This division applies even if the primary competitors are numerous, provided the *muḥallil* contributes no stake. The same ruling applies if the *muḥallil* is a group, as there is no difference between two or a group in this context. This entire framework is the doctrine of Al-Shafi'i.
