Primary text

If a woman claims completion of Iddah by delivering a child, her word is not accepted if she claims full-term delivery in less than six months from the earliest possible time of intercourse after the marriage contract, as full term cannot be achieved sooner. If she claims miscarriage (Isqat), her word is not accepted if the event occurred less than eighty days from the earliest possible time of intercourse after the contract, because the minimum period for a miscarriage that dissolves Iddah requires eighty days: forty days as a drop of semen (Nutfah), followed by forty days as a clinging substance (Alaqah); it only becomes a chewed clot (Mudghah) after eighty days, and Iddah is not dissolved before that stage.
