What is the ruling if both parties make contradictory claims regarding the end of the iddah and reconciliation?

If both claims (husband's reconciliation and wife's end of iddah) are treated as sequential, meaning the wife's claim of the end of iddah is established, the husband's claim effectively becomes one made after the iddah period, and thus it is not accepted. Abu Al-Khattab suggested that a casting of lots (qur'ah) may be employed, and the ruling follows the party upon whom the lot falls.
