Primary text

The statement of the woman regarding the completion of her Iddah is accepted if she claims completion within a timeframe where completion is possible. This is based on the verse: {Nor is it lawful for them to hide what Allah has created in their wombs} (Quran 2:228), which is interpreted to include menstruation and pregnancy. If their statements were not accepted, concealing this information would cause them undue hardship. Furthermore, since the matter is known only through her, her word must be accepted, similar to intent in matters where intent is crucial, or matters known only through her, like the report of a Companion.
