Primary text
The protected boundary for a tree planted in barren land extends to the area covered by its branches around it. For a date palm tree, the protected boundary extends to the length of its fronds. This is established by a narration found in Abu Dawud, where the Prophet, peace be upon him, judged a dispute over the boundary of a date palm by measuring the length of one of its fronds, which was determined to be five or seven cubits, and he ruled accordingly.
