Who has the right to a newly opened (Mawat) mineral deposit?

The person who first reaches an apparent or subterranean mineral deposit (mawat) has the priority right to what is extracted from it. This is based on the Prophet's saying: Whoever precedes a Muslim to something not previously taken, it belongs to him.
