Primary text

The sacrifice is valid only for the *Bahimat al-An'am* (livestock: camels, cattle, and sheep/goats), as indicated by the verse: "That they may mention the name of Allah over what He has provided for them of the livestock" (Quran 22:34). If one parent is a wild animal (*wahshi*), the offspring is invalid for sacrifice.

Supporting text

Hasan bin Salih narrated that a wild cow suffices for seven people, and a gazelle for one. The Ashab ar-Ra'y hold that the offspring of domesticated cattle is valid even if the father is wild. Abu Thawr agrees if the offspring is attributed to the *Bahimat al-An'am*. The rebuttal against the Ashab ar-Ra'y is that since the offspring is a mix of a valid and invalid type, it should be invalid, similar to when the mother is wild.
