A completely blind animal is not valid because the prohibition of the overtly one-eyed animal serves as an indication against the completely blind one, as blindness prevents it from moving with the herd and accessing feed, thereby reducing its flesh. An animal from which a significant body part, such as the tail (*aliyyah*) or udders (*atibba'*), has been cut off is also invalid. Ibn Abbas stated that the emaciated animal and the *Jada'* (which Ahmad interpreted as one whose udder has dried up) are not valid. This invalidity is reasoned because the loss of these parts causes a greater detriment to the intended purpose than the loss of a portion of the eye.
