It is permissible for the sacrifices for a male child to be males or females. The narration of Umm Karaz explicitly states, 'For the male, two equivalent sheep, and for the female, one sheep, and there is no harm if they are males or females.' However, the male is preferable because the Prophet sacrificed two rams (kash) for Hasan and Husayn, and he sacrificed two horned rams for his Udhiyah, as the Aqiqah operates similarly to the Udhiyah. Furthermore, the preferred color for the animal is white, mirroring the preference established for the Udhiyah. It is also recommended to select an animal that is fine, large, and excellent in appearance. If these preferences are not met, or if only one ram is sacrificed for a boy, it suffices, based on the tradition concerning Hasan and Husayn.
