Is it recommended for a father to perform Adhan (call to prayer) in the ear of a newborn child?

It is recommended for the father to perform the Adhan in the ear of his child immediately upon birth. This is supported by the narration from Abdullah ibn Rafi', from his mother, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed Adhan in the ear of Al-Hasan when Fatimah gave birth to him. Furthermore, Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz had the practice that upon the birth of a child, he would wrap the infant in a cloth, perform the Adhan in the right ear, and the Iqamah in the left ear, and then name the child.
