Primary text

Slaughtering becomes permissible from the time in the daylight of Eid day after the prayer and two complete sermons have passed, calculated at the minimum required time, without necessitating the actual performance of the prayer itself according to one view. This applies equally to residents of urban centers and others. The strongest position is that the time begins in the place of prayer after the prayer itself, based on the apparent meaning of the evidence.

Some scholars hold that the condition for the permissibility of sacrifice for urban residents is the performance of the Imam's prayer and sermon, referencing Hadith stating that one who slaughters before praying must offer another sacrifice. Another opinion suggests the time begins when the sun rises, drawing an analogy with fasting. For those outside cities and villages, the start time is the duration of the prayer and sermon; Abu Hanifa suggested the start time is the second dawn because it is part of the day of sacrifice.
