Primary text

It is recommended to have a good name because it is reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "Indeed, you will be called by your names and the names of your fathers on the Day of Resurrection, so make your names good." Furthermore, he stated that the most beloved names to Allah are Abdullah and Abd al-Rahman, which is a sound hadith. Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib reported that the most beloved names to Allah are the names of the Prophets.

Supporting text

The Prophet, peace be upon him, commanded that one should be named after him but not adopt his Kunyah (agnomen).
