What is the ruling if a person states, 'It is upon me for Allah to free this specific slave,' and the slave then develops a defect?

If an individual declares, 'It is upon me for Allah to free this specific slave' (Lillahi 'alayya 'itq hadha al-'abd), and the slave subsequently develops a defect, this fulfills the obligation upon him.
