Primary text
The slaughter remains a primary objective of the sacrifice, and this objective does not lapse merely because the appointed time has passed, just as the distribution of meat remains required. If the animal were slaughtered during the proper days, and then the owner died before the meat was distributed, the distribution would still occur afterward. This is distinguished from the standing (wuquf) or stoning (rami) rites. Furthermore, the Eid sacrifice itself does not become void simply by missing its time, unlike those other rites.
