Primary text
Shearing the wool of the designated animal is permissible only if it is more beneficial to the animal, such as shearing it in the spring so it gains weight and is relieved of the burden. The sheared wool must then be given in charity. If shearing would not harm the animal due to the short time remaining until slaughter, or if keeping the wool is more beneficial for protection against heat or cold, then shearing is not permitted, as the owner is prohibited from taking any part of the animal's physical components.
