Is the sacrifice of a castrated animal valid (Uḍḥiyah)?
General Chapter

Book of Sacrifices (Uḍḥiyah)
Primary text
The sacrifice of a castrated animal (*khasī*) is valid. This is established because the Prophet, peace be upon him, offered two rams (*kābshayni*) that were *mawjū’ayn* (those whose testicles had been struck or injured). An animal whose testicles were removed or paralyzed is treated the same as one that was struck because it is in the same category of defect. Furthermore, castration involves the removal of an undesirable part, and the meat improves and increases in fat because of it. Al-Sha'bi stated that what increases in its meat and fat is more than what was removed. This view is held by Al-Hasan, 'Ata', Al-Sha'bi, Al-Nakha'i, Malik, Al-Shafi'i, Abu Thawr, and the Companions of *Ra'y* (the proponents of legal reasoning). No dissenting opinion concerning this is known.
