Primary text
The determination of age varies by species. For sheep, the wool remains upright while the animal is young; when the wool lies flat on the back, the animal is considered *Jadh'ah*. For goats, reaching one full year and entering the second year makes it a *Thani*. For cattle, reaching two full years and entering the third year is the requirement. For camels, completing five full years and entering the sixth year is necessary. Al-Asma'i and Abu Zayd Al-Ansari specify that for a camel, reaching the sixth year and shedding its incisors (*thaniyyah*) qualifies it as a *Thani*. For cattle, the *Musinnah* is defined as two years old, based on the Hadith commanding slaughter only of the *Musinnah*.
Supporting text
Waki' stated that the *Jadh'ah* of sheep is seven or six months old. Abu Burdah's narration implies that the determination of age for the *Jadh'ah* of sheep is around six or seven months, while the *Thani* for goats is when the first year is complete.
