Is a single sacrifice sufficient for seven individuals?

Primary text
A single sacrifice (such as a camel or cow) is sufficient for seven individuals. This ruling is established by the narration from Jabir, who stated that they slaughtered the camel and the cow for seven people during the Hudaybiyah treaty with the Prophet, peace be upon him, and again when performing Tamattu' Hajj. These narrations are considered more authentic than others.

A dissenting view, narrated from 'Umar, states that one animal is not sufficient for seven. A similar opinion is held by Malik. Ahmad mentioned that he was unaware of anyone permitting less than seven for a large animal, except for Ibn 'Umar. Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib stated that a camel suffices for ten, and a cow for seven, supported by the narration of Rafi' regarding the division of spoils where ten sheep were equated to one camel. Ibn 'Abbas also narrated sharing a camel for ten and a cow for seven during travel.
