Al-Mughni
Book of Sales
Primary text
The meat must be specified by the age of the animal, masculinity or femininity, level of fatness or emaciation, whether it was fed feed (ra'iyan) or foddered (ma'loofan), the species of the animal, and the specific part of the animal the meat comes from. If the meat is from a male animal, it must be further specified as sexually mature (fahl) or castrated (khasy).
Supporting text
If the meat originates from hunting, specification of foddering and castration is waived. If the meat is from poultry, the specification of gender and the exact location of the cut is not necessary unless the gender causes a price variation (as with chicken meat) or the cut is large enough that only a portion is taken.
