If they dispute whether the buyer knew or not, the statement of the buyer is accepted provided the buyer is generally considered someone who would be ignorant of such matters, such as a common layperson, as this is often unknown to many people. If the buyer is known to possess the knowledge required to know such matters, the buyer's claim of ignorance is not accepted because the apparent state suggests they should not be ignorant.
