What is the consequence if only partial exchange occurs in a Sarf contract before separation?

If partial exchange occurs and then the parties separate, the contract is voided regarding the unexchanged portion and its corresponding countervalue. There are two differing opinions on whether the contract remains valid for the portion that was actually exchanged, based on the principle of splitting the transaction (tafriq al-safqa).
