Primary text

A pledge is valid for every established debt in the liability (*dhimmah*) that can be collected, such as sale prices, rent in lease contracts (*ijarat*), dowry (*mahr*), commutation of divorce (*khul'*) compensation, loans (*qard*), compensation for assault/injury (*arsh al-janayat*), and the value of destroyed property. The evidence for valid debts being those that can be collected from the collateral is that the security must be for an enforceable right.
