What is the determination for flour (daqīq) and parched grain (swīq)?
Chapter on Riba (Usury) and Exchange (Sarf)
Al-Mughni
Book of Sales
Primary text
Flour and parched grain are measures because their origin (the grain) is a measure, and no text has transferred their ruling to weight. They also resemble items that are typically measured. Evidence for this is that Zakat al-Fitr is paid with a *sa'* of flour, and the *sa'* is a measure used for measured goods. Consequently, dried yogurt (aqt) is also a measure, as a *sa'* of *aqt* is mentioned for the Sadaqat al-Fitr.
Supporting text
Al-Qadi mentioned that selling some flour for other flour by weight is permissible, and it is not precluded for an item whose origin is measured to be sold by weight, similar to bread.
