Forward sale (Salam) is valid for bread (khubz), colostrum (lab'a), and anything that has been touched by fire provided its quantity can be precisely determined. The evidence for this validity is the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Whoever enters into Salam, let him enter into a specified measure or a specified weight." This implies the permissibility of Salam for everything that can be measured by volume, weight, or count. Furthermore, the effect of heat is known by custom and can be precisely controlled through standards like dryness and moisture content, thus validating Salam, similar to items dried by the sun.
