The lending of commodities measured by volume (mikyal) or weight (mawzūn) is permissible without scholarly dispute. All scholars whose opinions are known agree that borrowing these items, as well as foodstuffs, is permissible. This is supported by consensus among the people of knowledge cited by Ibn al-Mundhir. Furthermore, the lending of everything that can be established as a debt obligation (*salam*) is permissible, with the exception of human beings.
