Primary text
The genus and quality (or what substitutes for quality) are mandatory conditions for every item in a forward sale, and thus do not require repetition if these are understood. For dates, four descriptors should be mentioned: the species (e.g., Barnī or Ma'qilī), the region (e.g., Baghdadī or Basrī), if the region affects the price (as Baghdad dates are sweeter and less enduring than Basra dates, due to water content), and the age/maturity, such as large or small, or recent ('Hadīth') or old ('Atīq'). If 'Atīq' is stated absolutely, any old date suffices, provided it is not infested with worms, shriveled, or altered.

If the age is specified as 'one year old' or 'two years old,' it is according to what is stated. Regarding color, it must be mentioned only if the single species varies in color, such as Tabarz dates which can be red or black; otherwise, it is omitted.
