If one party takes physical possession of the money owed to them before settling a reciprocal debt using a different currency, is the subsequent exchange valid?

If one of the debtors takes possession of the asset owed to him, and then they engage in an exchange using a physical asset from one party and a debt from the other, the transaction is valid. This is because actual possession negates the issue of selling debt for debt.
