Is the purchasing of a Qur'an copy permissible?
Chapter on Selling the Musarrah (Animal with milk retained in udder)
Al-Mughni
Book of Sales
Primary text
The purchasing of a Qur'an copy is permissible, as stated by Ahmad, who considered it less objectionable than selling. This permissibility is because purchasing constitutes rescuing the Mushaf and expending wealth upon it, which is permissible, similar to the allowance made for purchasing the properties of Mecca or renting its houses from those who forbid their sale or rental, or similar to the case of the land of Sawad. This is easier than selling.
Supporting text
There are two narrations regarding whether the purchasing and exchange of Qur'an copies are disliked (makruh).
