If Dirhams are customarily traded by count, then the repayment must be made by count if that is what was borrowed. Similarly, if the loan was based on weight, the repayment must be based on weight. This view is held by Al-Hasan, Ibn Sirin, and Al-Awza'i. The exchange between Ayyub and Hammad ibn Zayd, where Dirhams were borrowed by count in Mecca and repaid by count in Basra, confirms this, as the repayment fulfilled what the people customarily traded, akin to a weight-based transaction.
