What ruling applies to commodities where only one attribute of the 'illah (weight/measure/consumption) is present?

If only one attribute (consumption alone, or weight/measure alone) is present in an item of the same genus, there are two differing reports regarding its ruling, and scholarly opinion is divided. The sounder position is that it remains permissible, because there is no strong, reliable evidence mandating its prohibition, and conflicting reports must be set aside or reconciled by returning to the fundamental principle of permissibility supported by scripture and reason.
