What is the ruling concerning the lender taking a loan (Istiqrad)?
Chapter on Loan (Qard)
Al-Mughni
Book of Sales
Primary text
Taking a loan is not disliked (Makruh) for the lender. Imam Ahmad stated that taking a loan is not considered begging (Mas'alah). This is evidenced by the fact that the Prophet, peace be upon him, used to borrow, and if it were disliked, people would distance themselves from it the most. Moreover, the lender receives compensation for what is borrowed, which resembles purchasing something on credit against one's debt.

Ibn Abi Musa stated that he dislikes for a person to assume liability for something he does not possess, meaning what he cannot afford to repay.
