What is the ruling on exchanging pits for dates with pits inside?
Chapter on Riba (Usury) and Exchange (Sarf)
Al-Mughni
Book of Sales
Primary text
There are two narrations concerning the exchange of pits for dates that contain pits. One narration from Muhanna and Ahmad ibn al-Qasim prohibits it, equating it to exchanging a measure of Ajwa dates (a superior type) or dates with pits for dates without pits. Another narration from Ibn Mansur permits it, considering the pit in the date as unintended, similar to the permissibility of exchanging dates with pits for dates with pits. This second view treats it as exchanging pits for dates without pits, making both equal and unequal exchanges permissible because the pit within the date is disregarded.

The primary prohibition view equates this to exchanging a measure of Ajwa dates, or dates with pits for dates without pits. The permissibility view likens it to exchanging a gold-plated roofed house for gold, considering the pit insignificant.
