Primary text

There are two opinions regarding a Muslim hiring himself out to a Dhimmi for a fixed duration like a day or a month. The preferred opinion is that it is valid. This is because the arrangement is an act performed in exchange for compensation, which is analogous to performing work on one's own responsibility. It does not resemble ownership (*milk*) because ownership implies absolute authority, permanence, and the right to all forms of disposition over the person's being, which differs from a rental contract (*ijarah*).

The alternative opinion states that such a contract is invalid because it involves domination (*istila'*) over the Muslim and humiliation (*sighar*), making it similar to a sale contract.
