Primary text

In every transaction where unequal exchange is prohibited (e.g., gold for gold), delayed exchange (nasia') is also prohibited without any known difference of opinion. Separation before full receipt is forbidden based on the Prophet's saying: 'Like for like, hand to hand' and 'hand to hand.' Since the prohibition of delayed exchange is more stringent, especially since it applies even when the two items are of different types, its prohibition is established where the prohibition of unequal exchange exists.
