What is the ruling regarding the validity of the transaction for the sound portion of the currency if only part of the payment is found to be defective?

If the recipient finds only a portion of the payment to be defective and returns it, the ruling follows the detailed analysis previously mentioned regarding returning the defective item. There are two views on whether the contract remains valid for the sound portion of the currency if the contract is deemed void concerning the defective part, based on the principle of severing the transaction (Tafriq al-Safqah).
