What is the ruling on a sale where the proposal is made through an interrogative expression?

Primary text
If the initial expression is interrogative, such as saying, 'Will you sell me your garment for this price?' and the response is, 'I sold it to you,' the sale is absolutely invalid. This position is explicitly stated by Ahmad and is held by Abu Hanifa and Shafi'i. There is no known opposition to this ruling, as this expression is neither acceptance nor a request for a contract.
