What is the ruling on selling property whose parts are not equal in value, such as land, a garment, or a flock of sheep?
Chapter on Selling Assets and Fruits

Primary text
The sale is valid if the item is specified and viewed by both parties, such as stating, 'I sold you this land, or this garment, or this flock, for one thousand.' Similarly, selling a specified fraction, like half, a third, or a quarter of the item for a fixed price is valid. If the seller states a price per unit, such as 'I sold you every cubit for one dirham' (regarding a garment) or 'every sheep for one dirham' (regarding a flock), the sale is valid even if the total measure or number is unknown at the time of the contract, based on the established principle regarding measured commodities (like *sabra*).
