Is selling an item specifying its price written on a tag valid?
Chapter on Selling the Musarrah (Animal with milk retained in udder)

Primary text
The sale is valid when specifying the price by stating its tag number (*raqm*), meaning stating the price written upon the item, provided that the price is known to both parties at the time of the contract. This view is held by the majority of jurists. The reasoning is that this constitutes a sale for a known price, similar to stating the specific amount or stating the price at which the seller originally purchased the item, provided that amount is known to both parties. If the price is not known to both or one of the parties, the sale is invalid because the price is indeterminate.
