Is the selling of a monkey disliked (Makruh)?
Chapter on Selling the Musarrah (Animal with milk retained in udder)
Al-Mughni
Book of Sales
Primary text
Imam Ahmad holds the view that selling a monkey is disliked (Makruh). This ruling is interpreted by Ibn Aqil to apply specifically when the monkey is sold for amusement, keeping it as a pet, or playing with it. However, selling it for a beneficial purpose, such as guarding property or a shop, is permissible, treating it analogous to a falcon or hawk. This perspective aligns with the school of thought of Imam Al-Shafi'i.

The interpretation based on the sayings of Abu Bakr and Ibn Abi Musa necessitates the prohibition of selling the monkey universally without exception.
