If a slave girl is sold for dinars, and the buyer exchanges the dinars for dirhams, what happens if the slave girl is returned due to a defect or rescission of sale?

If the slave girl is returned due to a defect or agreed rescission, the buyer is only entitled to receive the dinars back. This is because the dinars constitute the price upon which the original sale contract was concluded. The exchange of dinars for dirhams happened separately as a new exchange contract (Sarf musta'naf).
