The specification of a determined term is mandatory in a deferred sale (Salaf). This is established by the verse of the Quran which states, 'When you contract a debt for a specified term' (Quran 2:282), and the statement of the Prophet, peace be upon him: 'to a known term.' There is no known disagreement regarding the necessity of knowing the term in principle.
